Gigi wants laptop, internet at detention cell

Gigi Reyes upon arrest. Photo courtesy of Carlos Santa Maria via Twitter.MANILA — Jessica Lucila “Gigi” Reyes, former aide of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile is asking the Sandiganbayan to allow her to bring laptop computer, internet connection and a printer at her detention cell.
“With her detention and medical condition… Reyes is already handicapped in assisting her counsel prepare her defense for trial… Allowing Reyes to use laptop computer with printer and internet connection while in detention will mitigate this handicap,” the motion read.
Her lawyers also cited the case in the United States where inmates are allowed to use computers.
“Even hardened terrorist suspects detained by the United States Military at the Guatanamo Bay Prison in Cuba are allowed access laptop computers to enable them to prepare for their defense,” Reyes’ motion said.
Reyes, is now detained in a cell at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.
