Mayon Volcano on alert level 2
Mayon Volcano, now on alert level 2, is capped by a lava dome that is very visible in the middle of the crater on Wednesday (Aug. 27, 2014) in Legazpi City.
A bulletin released by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) says magma has most likely intruded at depth and that current conditions could eventually lead to a large eruption.
Chief volcanologist for Bicol Ed Laguerta said the public is strongly advised to be vigilant and desist from entering the six-kilometer-radius permanent danger zone (PDZ) to minimize risks from sudden explosions, rock falls and landslides.
