Sandiganbayan junks Enrile’s motion vs. suspension
MANILA — The Sandigabayan yesterday junked Senator Juan Ponce Enrile’s motion for reconsideration, and affirmed the 90-day suspension of the senator following the plunder charges against him.
Third Division Clerk of Court Dennis Pulma told reporters in a brief press conference, that “Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile’s Motion for Reconsideration on the court’s July 24 resolution is hereby denied for lack of merit.”
He further noted that they will “furnish [the resolution] to the Office of Sen. Enrile for implementation.”
“Likewise, the Office of Sen. Enrile is ordered to inform the court of its action on this five days after its receipt. The suspension will be automatically lifted after 90 days of its implementation,” Pulma added.
“Here, the Court has determined that the information filed is valid and thus, it behooved the Court to issue the preventive suspension order.
The present motion for reconsideration is pro-forma deserving outright denial,” the resolution penned by Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje Tang read.
Meanwhile, Senate President Franklin Drilon said in a statement that the senate will also uphold the decision of the Sandiganbayan.
“And we will implement it as soon as we receive the official copy of the suspension order,” Drilon said.
Enrile, who is now facing a P172-million plunder charge before the anti-graft court has filed a motion for consideration last August 5, to appeal the Sandiganbayan’s decision suspending him from office.
