No Charter change during PNoy’s term — Palace spokesperson
MANILA — Following recent protests constitutional amendment, Malacanang spokesperson explained on Friday that there will be no Charter change during PNoy’s term.
Presidential deputy spokesperson Abigail Valte clarified that the President, during a TV5 interview, did not said anything about amending the constitution right now.
“I think we’re getting a little bit ahead of ourselves. What I remember the President say was that he’s thinking about it. He didn’t say, ‘Let’s do this tomorrow.’ He did not say anything about doing it tomorrow, doing it next week, doing it in the next few months,” she said.
Valte also said that PNoy has nothing to do with the recent move of several administration lawmakers who are campaigning amendments in the Constitution.
“Those are their own actions and their own advocacies,” she said, adding that this was “borne out of their own judgment.”
Contrary to recent reports, Valte also said that PNoy is not clipping the powers of the judiciary.
She insisted that what the president wanted is to “restore the balance” between the executive, legislative and judicial branches.
Valte calls on the public to wait for the full version of the video which will be aired before commenting on the issue.
