Solon urges Senate to probe MRT
MANILA – Filing a resolution in the Senate, Sen. Nancy Binay urged the senate committee to conduct an investigation on the safety of the mass transport operations.
The move was made following the recent accident of an MRT train which slammed a barrier at Taft Avenue station.
“It is important to look into this, given that the system carries more passengers than it was designed for,” Binay added.
Binay also calls for a review of MRT operations as it carry more than 150,000 passangers.
“The increasing number of incidents of train malfunction arising from inadequate maintenance of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT)-3 is alarming…(this) endangers the lives of the commuting public,” she said.
The senator cited reports of the train’s lack of maintenance and absence of regular inspection which makes it helpless at times of accidents.
Binay also added that the Senate should prioritize this in order “to prevent future accidents and mishaps that may claim the lives of thousands of Filipino commuters and motorists.”
