Netizens react to Miriam’s 50 Shades of Grey question
MANILA — Distributors and producers of the controversial book-turned-movie “Fifty Shades of Grey,” were successful in terms of hyping up the movie to the point that it gathered the interest of a Filipino politician.
The said politician is Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago. She asked this question through social media: “Still unopened 50 Shades of Grey set in my library. Should I read these? What do you think?” Santiago is still on leave of absence following her announcement that she is battling stage 4 lung cancer.
She was referring to the set of novels written by E.L. James, the first of which was published in 2011. The novels have erotic themes.
Her question intrigued her Facebook followers. The response of the netizens varied.
Some said yes, while others said: “Set it on fire, bury the ash, have it blessed,’ Faith Engracia commented. Facebook user Norman Sison, for his part, said, “Read the Bible instead, Senator. Praying for you. God bless you.”
There are some netizens who, of course, cannot stop from posting politically-related comments like Ariel Nievera who said, “Give it to Seksi, Pogi at Tanda so they have something to read in prison.”
Earlier this month, there have been rumors circulating about how the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) banned the “Fifty Shades of Grey.” To which MTRCB Chair Toto Villareal has denied.
