MANILA — Contrary to earlier statements, President Aquino is now open to amending  the Constitution and extending his term.

This according to the president, is in order to check on the power of the Supreme Court, a coequal of the executive and legislative branch.

“Before all of these happened, I admit I had a closed mind. But now I realized that there is judicial reach. Congress and the executive may act but they can be punished anytime,” he said on Wednesday in an exclusive interview with TV5.change.

President Aquino, however, explained that his being open to the idea does not necessarily mean that he would “automatically go for an additional term,”

“When I took this office, I recall that it was only for one term of six years,” he said.

“Now, after having said that, of course, I have to listen to my bosses [the people],” he added.

He clarified that what he meant by listening to the masses is like asking them how his “reforms” will continue.
