Heydays of ‘colorum’ PUVs, out-of-line PUBs are numbered – MMC
MANILA – “All out War!”
This was the warning of the metropolitan Manila mayors comprising the Metro Manila Council (MMC) on Tuesday against the operators and drivers of “colorum” public utility vehicles (PUVs) and out-of-line public utility buses (PUBs) in the metropolis.
The mayors of Metro Manila’s 16 cities and one town said they would impose the penalty under the Joint Administrative Order (JAO) 2014-01 issued jointly by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and approved by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC).
Under the JAO, colorum bus operators will be fined P1 million; truck and van operators, P200,000; sedan operators, P120,000; jeepney operators, P50,000; and motorcycle owners, P6,000.
In a meeting held at the Manila Yacht Club on Roxas Blvd.
, MMC spokesman Vice Mayor Isko Moreno said that the Metro Manila mayors agreed to put a stop to rampant violations of these colorum PUVs and the priority is to instill orderliness in the metropolis.
Moreno said the meeting of the MMC was also attended by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino, DOTC Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, Cabinet Secretary Rene Almendras and LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez
He added that starting Wednesday, the traffic enforcers of every LGU will apprehend colorum or without franchise PUVs like jeepneys, buses, taxicabs and AUVs (Asian utility vehicles).
For the out-of-line PUBs, Moreno said they will also be apprehended for getting out of their authorized routes.
Moreno also advised the truckers with green plate to secure their franchise papers before Oct. 17 or they will be apprehended and face penalties under the JAO.
