New Brunswick teacher to take helm of Canadian Teachers’ Federation
BATHURST, N.B. — An elementary school teacher and principal from northern New Brunswick is the new incoming president of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation.
Heather Smith of Janeville Elementary School in Bathurst, N.B., beat out two other candidates vying for the top spot during the federation’s annual general meeting on Friday.
Smith is a former president of the New Brunswick Teachers’ Association.
She will assume her new duties in Ottawa next July.
Smith was elected for a two-year term.
