Angel Aquino: Urian win legitimized her film industry membership

MANILA – Angel Aquino could not contain her excitement after winning her very first Gawad Urian saying the award legitimized her membership in the film industry.

“I am one of the happiest people on earth. I cannot explain how happy I am,” Aquino told reporters.

The 41-year-old actress was awarded for her much acclaimed role as the love interest of a young girl in the film “Ang Huling Cha Cha ni Anita”.

“Siguro nung pag upo ko kanina, mga isang oras pa siyang nag-stay sa akin. (Even after I was seated, the feeling stayed with me for an hour.) It was overwhelming,” she said.

“It felt so surreal competing against yourself,” Aquino said after she was nominated twice for the Best Supporting Actress category.

Her role in the Adolf Alix, Jr. film “Porno” was also recognized by the organizers of the Gawad Urian.

“Pero (But) also it gives me so much honor.

They could have just chosen one but they chose to recognize me for both performances and I am very grateful for that,” Aquino added.
