Elect genuine leaders who will fight for citizen’s interests – PNoy
MANILA — President Benigno Aquino III called on Filipinos to choose candidates who will fight for the citizen’s interests.
In a speech during the Independence Day celebration held in Naga City, Camarines Sur, the president said that the country does not need dancers and singers.
Pananagutan nating mag-iwan ng mas makatarungan at mas maunlad na Pilipinas kaysa ating dinatnan ,” he said.
(We do not need someone who is good at reading scripts, dancing or singing. It is our responsibility to ensure that the Philippines is more just and progressive than it was in the past.)
Aquino also added that Filipinos have the responsibilities to choose leaders wisely so that the sacrifices of the ancestors who died fighting for independence will not be wasted.
(Everyone of us has something to share so that the sacrifices of our ancestors will not go to waste.)
The president also cited his family’s experiences during the martial law period under former dictator, Ferdinand Marcos, saying that it taught him the importance of fighting against injustice.
(Now that I am in the position to apply these lessons in real life, I will do all that I can to give justice not only to some but to the whole nation.)
