Former broadcaster gunned down in Oriental Mindoro
MANILA — A former radio broadcaster was shot and killed by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro province on Monday afternoon, police said.
Superintendent Glicerio Cansilao, Calapan City police chief, identified the victim as Nilo Baculo, 67, unemployed and a former radioman at dwIM Radyo Mindoro, was gunned down by still unidentified assailants around 12:25 p.m. near his house at Barangay (village) Lalud.
He added that the gunmen who ambushed Baculo managed to immediately escape after the killing.
Policemen who responded to the scene were able to rush Baculo to Maria Estrella General Hospital at Barangay Tawiran but was declared dead on arrival.
Baculo died from two fatal gunshot wounds, Cansilao added.
According to Cansilao, Baculo was reportedly connected with local radio station dwIM but the information they received is that the victim was no longer employed in the said media entity for a year.
