MANILA — Amid recent water and power interruptions, Malacanang on Saturday assured that the government was working to ensure that water and power supply will be available especially during the hottest months.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte in an interview over dzRB Radyo ng Bayan, said that the National Power Corp. (Napocor) is actively watching the water levels of dams.

Valte also said that the Napocor has also been cooperating with other agencies in undertaking cloud seeding operations to induce rain, especially for the expected El Nino in the coming months.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) are meanwhile conducting cloud seeding operations in different areas to produce rain for the agriculture sector.

As for the energy problem, Valte said that the energy department said that the Sual plant is running and the Pagbilao plant, which is undergoing repair, will be operational after a week.

She further said that since the power demand for electricity last Friday night was not that much and it also expects a lower demand this weekend.

“So hopefully, based on these projections it looks like there will be no more power interruptions as long as there would not be any breakdowns in other power plants,” she said.

Valte also noted that the Department of Energy (DOE) would also have to make sure that plants that have shutdown go back online immediately.
