OKOTOKS, Alta. – Federal Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is sticking to his recent comments about only allowing candidates who are pro-choice to run for the party in the next election.
At a campaign event in Okotoks, Alta., on Thursday, he said the party has been pro-choice since 2012 and any person who wants to run under the Liberal banner must subscribe to the party’s views.
He said the party simply does not believe a government should regulate what happens with a woman and her body.
A small group of protesters stood outside outside the event, holding signs reading: “Vote for Justin — Abort the Future.”
Protester Merle Terlesky called Trudeau’s comments discriminatory and an affront to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
