TENINO, Wash. – High school students in the western Washington community of Tenino (Ten-NINE-o) who hatched the idea of endlessly playing a Justin Bieber song to raise money for African orphans have eclipsed their goal – they got classmates to donate more than $900.

KING-TV reports (http://is.gd/8gk7GG) that Tenino High School student government members started Monday, blasting the Bieber song “Baby” on repeat during breaks between classes and at lunch time. Student government president Connor Stakelin noted that for some students “it’s incentive to donate because they don’t want to hear it anymore.”

The immediate goal was to raise $500 for students at a school in the west African country of Ghana. The idea to support the school came from Tenino Elementary School Principal Dave Ford.

The high school hopes to raise at least $1,200 with this fundraiser and others.

Stakelin says students raised more than 5 by first period Tuesday.
